John D. Kueck and Brendan J. Kirby John D. Kueck is a Staff Engineer within the Power Systems Research Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he has served for a decade in a career that has also included service with Sargent & Lundy Engineers, Combustion Engineering, and Carolina Power & Light Co. In his 30 years in the field, Mr. Kueck’s work has spanned the electrical design and operation of fossil fuel and nuclear generating stations, performance optimization and condition analysis of motors and motor drives, and the restructuring of the U.S. utility system. Brendan J. Kirby, a frequent contributor to The Electricity Journal, is Director of the ORNL’s Power Systems Research Program and a private consultant. With 25 years of electric utility experience, Mr. Kirby’s has been working on restructuring and ancillary services since 1994 and spot retail power markets since 1985.

Optimal Location and Sizing of Distributed Generations in Distribution Networks Considering Load Growth using Modified Multi-objective Teaching Learning Based Optimization Algorithm

Abstract: This paper presents a modified method based on teaching learning based optimization algorithm to solve the problem of the single- and multi-objective optimal location of distributed generation units to cope up the load growth in the distribution network .Minimizing losses, voltage deviation, energy cost and improved voltage stability are the objective functions in this problem. Load g...

Species distribution modelling of invasive alien species; Pterois miles for current distribution and future suitable habitats

The present study aims to predict the potential geographic distribution and future expansion of invasive alien lionfish (Pterois miles) with ecological niche modelling along the Mediterranean Sea. The primary data consisted of occurrence points of P. miles in the Mediterranean and marine climatic data layers were collected from global databases. All the used models run 100% su...

Improving Long Run Marginal Cost based Pricing along with Extended Benefit Factor method for Revenue Reconciliation of Transmission Network in Restructured Power System

Abstract : There are several methods to cover the costs of a transmission system and distribution networks. These methods are divided into either incremental or marginal approaches, which can be either long-term or short-term. The main difference between the incremental and marginal approach is how to calculate the cost of using the network. In the incremental approach, simulation and in the ma...

Optimal Reconfiguration in Smart Distribution Network in the Presence of DG Resources under Uncertainties

Due to the growth and expansion of cities and the unchanged distribution network, an important issue for electricity distribution companies is customer satisfaction with the quality of received power. It is clear that with the expansion of load centers, the amount of line power flow increases, that creates problems such as voltage drop and increased losses. Distribution network reconfiguration ...

Predicting the geographical distribution of Alopecurus textilis Boiss rangeland species on basis Consensus approach of climate change in Mazandaran province

The climate changes have an important role in distribution of plant species. Statistical species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to predict the changes in species distribution under climate change scenarios. In the peresent study, the distribution of Alopecurus textilis in the current and future climate condition (2050) under the influence of climate change and two scenarios of RCP 4...
